Dental Checkups

Get in touch with us at Wilson East Dental Care in Ancaster, we are here to help your entire family with all their dental care needs!

First, dental checkups are needed to keep your mouth area clean and free of diseases. There are spots in your mouth that are unreachable and more difficult to clean on your own, but with professional tools, dentists are able to properly clean and examine these spots. Cavities, for instance, may be overlooked because it is rather hard for us to thoroughly examine our own teeth.

We have had such an amazing experience with this dental office. Everyone is so kind, welcoming, patient, and genuinely caring. They have gone above and beyond to make sure both my family and I feel comfortable and supported. Our daughter has recently had some issues along the way, and the entire team has been nothing but understanding, compassionate, and amazing with her. They have always taken the time to listen, explain things, and make sure she feels safe and comfortable. It means so much as a parent to have a dental team that treats your child with such patience and kindness. We are so grateful to have found such an incredible dental office. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a dentist who truly cares about their patients! Thank you Dr Ghane and Team! ❤️🦷

This morning I called 8:20, was greeted by office manager. After explaining my situation of loose upper right wisdom tooth that's swelling making it impossible to chew, she got me in for 8:30. Drove in before 8:30, did some minimal paper work and had my tooth extracted and left before 9:00, as I had my son to give a ride to work at 9. I recommend this Wilson East dental office highly. Hello Dr. Ghane, I just wanted to express my sincere thanks to you and your staff for the excellent care you provided this morning. It was very kind of you all, and I was truly impressed by how efficiently and professionally everyone worked together to remove my upper right wisdom tooth. The teamwork, organization, and compassion shown throughout the procedure were remarkable and greatly appreciated. Thank you again for your prompt attention and outstanding service. I am very grateful for the care I received. I also appreciated the reminder to renew my dental coverage, which has now been completed. Thank you for the thorough aftercare instructions as well. I'm pleased to report that there were no issues with bleeding or any other complications, and my recovery has been progressing well. Sincerely, Paul

Diseases That can Be Detected Through Dental Checkups

There are many diseases that can be detected through dental checkup, including:

Gum Disease: Caused by bacterial infection, gum disease makes your gums swell and bleed easily. If left untreated, gum disease may cause tooth loss and increase the risks of other diseases, including diabetes and heart disease. The early stage of gum disease is usually not painful, so a dental checkup is beneficial to check for early signs of gum disease.

Oral Cancer: Oral cancer is a type of cancer that begins in your mouth area. Regular dental checkups are essential to prevent it from developing.

Oral Thrush: Oral thrush is a yeast infection that affects the mouth area. This condition is mostly harmless, although it may cause irritations, difficulty swallowing, and weakens the immune system.

Wisdom Tooth Infection: The last set of teeth that grows last are the rear molars, which usually appear gradually during the late teenage years or early 20s. Most of the time, however, there are no spaces left for these teeth, and this causes them to become buried in the gums and cause pain. When this happens, it is important to visit the dentist for a checkup and have your wisdom teeth extracted.

What Happens During a Dental Checkup?

The first step of a dental checkup is an assessment. You will be asked questions regarding your health history, the history of your family’s health, and your habits, such as smoking and diet. These questions will be asked in order for the dentist to understand your health better and know risk factors that you may have.

Next, your mouth will be examined. Your dentist will check if there are any cavities, plaques, and tartar (the yellow or brown deposit on the lower part of your teeth) present. They will also check the firmness of your gums to see if you have any symptoms of gum disease.

Following the dental examination are several procedures. Not all of these procedures will be done during a checkup, it all depends on the dentist’s verdict on your oral health. Here are the procedures that can be done and the reasons why you may need them:

Scaling: Scaling is a method of removing tartar and bacteria buildup on your teeth. This is a non-surgical method and no anaesthetic is required. The dentist will use professional dental tools to carefully clean every area of your mouth.

Polishing: After the scaling process is complete, the dentist will polish your teeth using a polisher made of rubber. Polishing smoothens the teeth and removes stains.

Head and Neck Examination: Besides your mouth, the dentist will also examine your head and neck. The firmness and movements of your jaw will be checked, as well as the condition of the lymph nodes in your neck. Poor jaw movements may indicate gum disease or joint dysfunction, while swollen lymph nodes may be a sign of other health diseases.

Benefits of Having Regular Dental Checkups

Having regular dental checkups offers many benefits. Firstly, you will receive professional cleaning to efficiently remove tartar and bacteria buildup that could further damage your mouth if left untreated. Illnesses can also be detected from early on through regular dental checkups, preventing them from further damaging not only your oral health but also your general well-being. Overall, visiting the dentist regularly helps maintain your oral hygiene and health greatly.

How Often Should You Go For a Dental Checkup?
